Fuzzy Duck Gives James J Hill Days a New Look

Watching wiener dogs run, admiring eccentrically dressed parade marchers, and taking a gander at neat old cars can only be experienced in one place. James J. Hill Days in downtown Wayzata pays tribute to the man who brought the city railroad! For this year’s event, the Wayzata Chamber came to Fuzzy Duck in search of a more alluring and flexible logo design for the 37th year celebration and many more. The annual celebration remembers the history that shaped the town of Wayzata by bringing together family, friends and neighbors for expos, good food, and fun on Wayzata beach. James J. Hill Days will take place September 10-11, 2011. One cool car show and a spectacular parade highlight the weekend of family fun.

But who is this guy entwined in Wayzata’s history so eminently to have an entire city festival named after him? James J. Hill, came to Minnesota in 1856 and shortly after became a railroad executive. Around 1905, after much controversy over the railroad and the city of Wayzata, Hill built the most beautiful railroad station on the track. Hill became one of the most “colorful” and influential characters in Wayzata’s history, and is recognized as the man who brought the railroad to the village that allowed it to flourish into a city.

When the Wayzata Chamber approached Fuzzy Duck earlier this summer they were seeking a more appealing design that would be flexible for alterations of themes throughout the coming years. The original logo was revamped with neutral, muted pigments to create a simple color scheme that will coordinate with varying decorations each year. This year’s theme “Stars n’ Stripes: The All American Get Together” required a banner showing patriotism. What better colors for that than red and blue? Deeper tones of the two colors were used to give a timeless vintage look. The goal was accomplished. The new logo will allow Wayzata Chamber to continuously administer updates and changes throughout the years to come.
